Why
I
don’t
have
Botox
and
why
I’m
happier
to
age
out
loud

I am not anti-injectables. I am very passionate about helping women find the best beauty regime that makes them feel happy. And if your regime includes Botox and filler, and it works for you, then that’s great.

But what I am anti is being pushed into thinking that the only route to approach aging is by freezing and filling your face. I feel pressured to have it. Not having botox is always met with surprise because it has become the norm. I get a similar reaction when I pass on a glass of wine or cocktail: Why don’t you want it? Come on – it will make you feel better!

The images in the media make me think that I need it. Faces have become frozen literally in time. It has become the new normal. Even women in their 20s are choosing to take up botox at an age they clearly don’t need it. ‘Prejuvenation’ is an anti-aging trend that is meant to stop wrinkles before they start and as a mum of two teenagers, I have serious worries that if Gen X and Gen A are taking up these habits, they are going to have a warped perspective on their self-image, especially as they age.

And that’s the problem! We’re constantly being told that aging is something that we need to fix, but wrinkles and having an expressional face does not mean that you look broken or less beautiful.

By choosing not to go down the Botox route I am showing women of all ages that there is another way. I want to be at a place where women feel confident to turn away from injectables and feel assured that they don’t have to freeze their face in order to look good.

I personally think movement and expression in a face gives us a unique beauty and things like wrinkles should be celebrated not feared. My tagline is smiling gives you wrinkles for a reason 🙂

‘Aging out loud’ is an approach to beauty that is about embracing and nurturing real aging. It’s about celebrating those crows’ feet and laughter lines, while noting that it’s OK to feel a bit vulnerable about them. Because that’s what makes you human, spirited, characterful and ultimately even more beautiful.

I believe that true beauty is about individuality and confidence. And having a face that moves with your expressions and your emotions is what makes you, YOU! So why not embrace that?

I have directed over 100 unretouched beauty and cover shoots, and I’ve witnessed how this approach of accepting your so-called imperfections helps even the most beautiful women embrace things that they are often ashamed of. These are the things that make them stand out from the crowd. Freckles, a gappy smile, crows feet, even an off-centre hair line…And they are all the things that I believe make a woman unique.

I don’t want to tell you not to have Botox because I’m not having it. I want you to be authentic to yourself and choose the right treatment because it makes you happy and more confident.

I just want women to know that they can love their skin without injectables.  They can help their skin look healthy, bright and the best for its age with great skincare and of course the right attitude.
